About Wes

Wes and his siblings grew up as PKs (Preacher’s Kids). His father, Rev. A.W. Wellborn Sr., pastored small, rural churches in West Texas until his death in 1973.  He followed his father’s footsteps and became a pastor himself.  After more than 20 years in full-time vocational ministry, he transitioned to a career in higher education.

After 33 years of marriage, Wes lost his wife, Kimberly, to a six year battle with cancer. Kimberly was a fiery red-head with endless energy and contagious joy. She reveled in life and love, often hosting dozens of people with her home cooking and immaculate decorating. Even in her final days, she would sit on the back porch and remark, “Another perfect day.”

Wes currently works as a writing instructor with Temple College in Temple, Texas.  He earned B.A., M.Ed., and M.A. degrees from Wayland Baptist University and an Ed.D.  from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.  He has researched renewal in rural churches and higher education trends, both nationally and abroad.

Wes has three children and seven grandchildren.  He plays guitar, bass, and occasionally banjo, and he collects coffee mugs. He most enjoys being a fan of all things Texas, and traveling on his motorcycle.
